Soft Start

A quick note on soft start checks before switch-on, to confirm wiring, fabric tension and light spread.
Large LED fabric frames benefit from a calm start: check the wall, sort the extrusion lengths, test the power, then fit the graphic once the structure is true. Soft Start covers the first steps that prevent avoidable snags on site.
Soft Start is our pre-power routine for LED fabric lightboxes. Before switch-on, we verify polarity, driver placement, corner joints and the way the silicone edge graphic sits in the channel.
Pre-power checks on site
- Wall or stand position confirmed
- First test done before graphic fitting
- Driver rating matched to frame layout
- Site name matches packing labels
Soft Start sits between fabrication and final display. It focuses on the first live checks, where wiring faults, skewed extrusions or uneven fabric tension are easiest to catch.
How Soft Start protects LED modules in fabric lightboxes
Soft Start is the check we use before a lightbox goes live on site or in the workshop. It covers wiring, fabric tension in the silicone edge, and the way the LEDs spread light across the face so the finished frame reads cleanly.
Begin with the assembled extrusion, then trace the feed from plug point to driver to LED run. Large single-sided boxes, double-sided hanging frames and mall displays each behave differently once lit. Johannesburg dust, Durban humidity and generator changeovers can all affect what you inspect first.
Take one photo before the graphic is tensioned into the groove. That image should show cable entry, driver location and the way the frame sits against the wall or stand structure. Later, it helps when a replacement print or re-install must follow the same orientation.
What Soft Start leaves you with
The result is a lit frame that has been checked for spread, alignment and power routing before handover. You also have a usable record of how the unit was assembled, powered and skinned with fabric. That matters when the same lightbox travels to another branch, mall or expo venue.
Pair Soft Start with the install record before dispatch or site pack-down. Recheck connectors, corner squareness and the print face one last time after the LEDs are on. Lightbox quotes are built from the wall size, the frame depth and whether the unit is single or double sided.
- Light spread checked across full face
- Fabric tension corrected before final tuck
- Power route noted for next install
Conditions that affect switch-on
Retail and expo sites do not all give clean access to power. Some installations rely on existing conduits, ceiling feeds or older wall points that need testing before the frame closes up. In busy centres and exhibition halls, that check often has to happen within a strict access window.
Coastal air can influence connector care and cleaning frequency around aluminium profiles. Inland dust shows up quickly once a lightbox is opened for maintenance or graphic changes. During load-shedding periods, a proper light spread test may need to wait for stable supply rather than a brief backup cycle.

Soft Start details worth logging
A quick note on soft start checks before switch-on, to confirm wiring, fabric tension and light spread.
Record the frame size, driver position, cable entry side and any dim or shadowed area seen on first light. Note whether the graphic was fitted after test illumination or before it. Those small details save time when the same LED fabric frame is reassembled for another campaign.
