Matching replacement LED modules

Replacement LED lighting for fabric lightboxes must match the existing modules, layout and power requirements of the frame.

Compare replacement strips or modules with the lightbox you have on site. Check operating voltage, watt draw, colour temperature, module spacing, and cable length before ordering, especially where one frame has been repaired more than once. Conditions in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town can differ, so dust build-up, humidity, and switching cycles should be considered when reviewing existing lighting.

A photo of the illuminated frame with the fabric skin removed helps identify the current layout quickly. Include close shots of connectors, driver labels, and the fixing method so the replacement LED can be matched to the existing aluminium frame without guesswork. Where light output has dropped only on one side, inspect feed cables and power supply ratings before replacing every module.

What to verify on site

The useful checks are the inside frame depth, the number of LED runs, and the position of the driver within the unit or nearby service space. Measure the lit face and note whether the frame is wall mounted, free standing, or suspended above retail traffic. For expo applications, confirm the venue power source and whether the frame is assembled and stripped repeatedly.

Before sending a query through the contact form, note the frame size, voltage, and any markings printed on the failed lighting or driver. Say where on the illuminated face any patching, dim sections, or colour mismatch shows.

  • Voltage and driver compatibility checked
  • Existing module spacing recorded clearly
  • Photos of failed LEDs attached

Retail and expo power checks

Mall installations often have restricted access times, shared electrical points, and older circuits that need a proper load check before replacement lighting is fitted. For units moving through OR Tambo freight or regional delivery routes, protect drivers, leads, and LED strips against impact in transit and label each set to match the frame bay or section. Suspended frames also need cable routing checked so replacement lighting does not interfere with hanging hardware.

Coastal air can affect connectors and exposed metal parts over time, particularly where a frame has been opened for repeated graphic changes. Inland dust settles on diffusers, profiles, and LEDs, which can reduce apparent brightness even when the modules are still operating correctly. After load-shedding or unstable power events, inspect drivers first if multiple sections fail at once.

Information that helps matching

Send the frame dimensions, the lit face size, and details of what stopped working. Mention whether the issue is total failure, dark spots, flicker, or a colour difference across the fabric face.

Record the driver specification, connector type, and quantity of modules while the frame is open. Keep those notes with the project file so later maintenance on the same lightbox can follow the original wiring layout and power requirement.
